Arched Shutters

Arched windows present a challenge when it comes to window treatments. The windows shown in this photo are especially problematic as it’s not only the window itself which is arch shaped but the top section of the window reveal is also curved. This means that trying to put a regular ‘rectangular’ shaped window treatment such as wooden blinds, roller blinds or curtains would have to sit completely outside of the window reveal. This would have the effect of loosing a lot of space within the room (as the depth of the reveal would be hidden behind the blind or curtain) and, most significantly, you’d completely lose the unique shape of arched window.

Arched plantation shutters offer a fantastic bespoke solution to dressing arched windows. As you can see, the shutters are made to be a perfect fit for the shape of these windows. These arched shutters were installed in a Mayfair, London apartment, which (while a nice apartment) did not have great views, looking as it does onto other flats and offices. With no window treatment on the windows, the lounge and bedroom (which also have arched windows) had no privacy at all.

Shutterly Fabulous helped this Mayfair customer select the perfect shutters design to help them ‘lose’ the offending view, whilst still allowing maximum light into the room. The shutters were installed so that they would open with the window.

Therefore, the windows were very easy to access and could be left ajar to let air into the room. The panels were rarely opened therefore we had one large arch panel, which reduced the amount of solid vertical wood on the window, cutting through the glazed area. This allowes maximum light to come into the room, and by tilting the slats at a very slight angle gave privacy from the surrounding London apartments and offices.

Arched panels are hand made and have a slight price premium over regular rectangular shutters.
