Cafe Shutters Ensure Privacy
Barnes Shutters, Cafe Society
Many homes in Barnes have Shutters. Cafe shutters (or cafe style shutters to give this design of plantation shutters their correct title) means that the shutters panels do not cover the entire height of the window. Cafe shutters are intended to give privacy to this home in Barnes, but covering just the lower portion of the lounge window, and stopping people who walk past the home in Barnes from looking directly into the room.
This cafe shutters installation as shown in this photo has shutters that cover more than half the window. Many Victorian sash type windows have cafe shutters that go to the halfway point on the window, to match the natural framing of the window. On this lounge window in Barnes, the cafe shutters were better suited to cover around ¾ of the height of the window. There is, as can be seen, a natural divide point on this window and the top of the cafe shutters therefore match the natural framing of the window.
Cafe Shutters on this window have been installed with 6 panels, which open as 3 shutters to the left and 3 shutters to the right. The shutters are therefore tri-folding in each direction. This was a more practical design for this Barnes customer who wanted to be able to open the panels back against the side wall if they wanted to. Another option would have been to have the cafe style shutters with 3 panels hinged 2 left and 1 right. This Barnes Lounge was painted in custom Cloudy White and the cafe shutters are painted in bright white also. The shutters have 64mm slats with hidden push rods.
