Box Bay Shutters Stunning in Earlsfield

Wooden shutters are very popular in London, with areas such as Earlsfield, Wandsworth, Balham and Clapham continuing to be exceptionally popular areas for shutters.

The lounge box bay window shown here is in Earlsfield and is typical of properties in the South London area which have bay windows. This home features the original sash windows and was installed with full height wooden shutters. The wooden shutters design on this lounge have a mid rail, that was designed to match the sash point on the window. The shutter panels are continuous from bottom to top, but the mid rail has the effect of dividing the slats between the upper and lower sections. Therefore, you can tilt the shutters slats at one angle on the section below the mid rail and at another angle on the upper portion, above the mid rail.

You can see from the photo that the main centre section comprises 3 separate windows. The panels on the far left section bi-fold both the left, the panels on the far right section, bi-fold to the right, and the centre panels open 1 hinged left, and 1 hinged right. Most customers do find that it’s rare they actually open back the panels and instead will tilt the slats more often. This is particularly true of windows such as this shown in Earlsfield where the house is close to the pavement and people walking past can look straight into the room. Leaving the shutter panels closed over and tilting the slats, stops people looking straight into the room, but still allows light to flow between the slats.

The wooden shutters shown are made from FSC certified poplar hardwood. They have been painted with an Ivory paint which is a colour match to Heritage colours which has become a very popular choice among shutter customers. The shutter slats are 64mm and feature a regular push rod on the front of the shutters. This rod is used to tilt and adjust the slats. Another option customers can choose is a concealed push rod, which links the shutter slats at the rear of the panels.
