This customers' shutter set shown in the image is a very straightforward shutter set. We don’t have set styles or ranges of shutters, however there are certainly shutters which are easier to manufacture and install than others, but it really does depend on your window. And what is actually there to work with.
At Shutterly Fabulous we never really have to tell our customers that they can’t have shutters for windows as our shutters are completely bespoke. This is one of the main reasons we don’t have shutter ranges for you to choose from. You can pretty much choose whatever you like, and providing it works with your window we will try to make sure that we can manufacture and install to a very high standard.
The shutters you can choose from are either Poplar Wood or Elm Wood; these are both FSC certified woods from a sustainable source. Shutter sets are priced per square meter, and the only factor which will change the price is the size, or whether you choose poplar wood or elm wood.
The main difference between Elm wood and Poplar wood is that Elm has a deep grain running through it. Elm shutters will also have that deep grain running through the slats, stiles, top and bottom rail and the frame of the shutter set. IT will give a natural wood like feel to the shutter, particularly when finished with a stain.
When finished with paint, the Elm wood shutters grain will be deep enough to show it through the paint, sometimes the paint doesn’t run into every part of the grain, giving a distressed look to the whole shutter. This isn’t to everyone’s tastes, which is why we also offer Poplar wood.
Unlike Elm wood shutters, Poplar wood has a very shallow grain running through it. Poplar wood shutters can be sanded to a very high quality smooth finish. The paint takes very well to this. After the poplar wood shutter has been sprayed a number of times the shutter panels and frames take on a very smooth finish and you can’t see the grain through the paint.
