Wood Shutters Open up Space in a Living Room or Lounge

With many UK homes having rooms with limited space, wood shutters are a window treatment to help create a feeling of openness. Designed correctly, wood shutters can be an unobtrusive and aesthetically stunning window treatment that compliments the look of a room and the window itself.

This photo shows a French Door in a flat in London. The doors shown give access to a balcony and the flat in general was quite overlooked by surrounding buildings. In addition, the main living space had to serve the dual purpose of being the main living area and also a dining area. Therefore whichever window treatment was to be used, whether wood plantation shutters, curtains or blinds, it had to look stylish, be practical and be hassle free as well as allow easy access the balcony.

The wood shutters were installed at the front of the recess, allowing the shutter panels to bifold flat back onto the walls either side of the door. This means that the width of the panels when folded back is narrow and therefore leaves space on the wall for furniture or pictures.

The French door shutters installed had the added challenge of overcoming the fact that the actual doors themselves were inward opening. However thanks to a clever bespoke installation design undertaken for this customer, the doors can open without hitting any part of the wood shutters.

The French door shutters shown are made from FSC sustainable poplar. They are painted in shell and have 64mm slats with a concealed push rod.
