Internal Wood Shutters and Plantation Shutters

Why Shutters?

Indoor ShuttersWooden shutters transform any room and offer a level of flexibility and freedom no other window treatment can provide. Choose to leave the shutter panels closed, but adjust the shutter slats to gain privacy but still allow light to filter through.
Why lose a feature window behind heavy curtains when shutters fit perfectly to reveal stunning period features. Conversely, hide an ugly window or view, by creating a new england shutter look within your home.

Loft apartment, Victorian mews house, or country cottage – whatever your design tastes or preferences our shutters are available in a wide range of different paints and stains and can be designed to exactly your specifications.

*Over the past 20 years, the shutter market in North America has grown to account for approximately 20% of the window coverings market. Plantation or California shutters as they are often referred to, are seeing a similar growth in popularity here in the UK, and as such there are now several shutter company's in the UK for customers to choose from. So why choose Shutterly Fabulous?

Our Shutters
Indoor ShuttersOur shutter product is unique. Our years of experience has led us to design a range that is unique to employing latest shutter manufacturing technology and using only the highest quality sustainable hardwoods.

Shutterly Fabulous don't 'do' MDF shutters. MDF is a terrible material to use for shutter construction. The continual movement of the shutter panels and slats will simply not stand the test of time if the shutter is made from MDF. Hence the reason we manufacture from American Yellow Poplar and Elm, ensuring your wooden shutters not only look fantastic, but will last a lifetime.

Equally as important, our shutters are installed directly by our own Shutterly Fabulous Installation Technicians. We don't subcontract ensuring that the craftsman installing your shutters has full knowledge and experience in installing the Shutterly Fabulous way!

In Home Consultation

Unlike other shutter sites you may have seen, we don’t have a pricelist on this website. Buying shutters is not like buying a CD online – you're investing your money in buying wooden shutters and we want to invest our time in you. We therefore ask that as the first step you contact us either by calling us on 0845 644 2873 or emailing us your dimensions. We can then ensure we give you a realistic and competitive ballpark quotation, enabling you to get a feel for the costs involved in buying your wooden shutters.

If our shutter quote meets your expectations, we then arrange for an In House Design Consultant (often the Company owner and Director) to visit you to talk through the various design and style solutions open to you.

There is no heavy handed approach. You will be talked through the Shutterly Fabulous shutter design options open to you and given a confirmed price which, provided the dimensions you provided us were accurate - will be within the ballpark price we gave you for your plantation shutters. Then it’s up to you – take time to mull over your decision or take the next step to getting fantastic Shutterly fabulous shutters.

We should point out our Consultant is responsible for overseeing all pre and post production quality control and directly instructs our Carpenters on the specific nuances of your installation. Whatever shutter design option you choose, Shutterly Fabulous ensure a standard of shutter installation that is second to none.

Wood is Just Wood - Isn't it?

Indoor ShuttersAs the popularity of wood shutters has increased, so too has the number of different materials used in shutter manufacture. MDF shutters are available from various other shutters companies, but we have made the active decision not to stock an MDF/plastic coated shutter product.

Only solid hardwood internal shutters have the strength and integrity to ensure that your plantation shutters last a lifetime. The cost difference between MDF shutters and our premium grade hardwood shutters is minimal. Any cost benefit that may be perceived in buying MDF is soon eradicated when such shutters have to be replaced after a relatively short period. Finally, don't be swayed if you're told that is does not matter if the shutters are painted – if the shutter is not made from a quality hardwood, no amount of paint will cover up the weaknesses underneath!

At Shutterly Fabulous we manufacture from both Poplar and Elm. Poplar is the most commonly wood used in high quality shutter manufacture in North America and is harvested from fast growing American Yellow Poplar trees. This ensures the grain is very smooth and consistent, with no knots, ensuring your plantation shutters are strong and durable. Our poplar shutters are available in both a wide range of standard paint and stain finishes and any custom colour you can think of.

We also manufacture our wood shutters in solid elm – a beautifully detailed deep grain hardwood if you prefer a more detailed grain to show on the wood. All wood used for shutter manufacture are kiln dried to avoid warping when installed, guaranteeing the best quality shutters you can buy. So, don't underestimate the importance of the type and quality of wood used when you're looking to buy your shutters. Paint and stain can conceal a host of blemishes, but over the course of time with daily usage and wear, choosing anything other than the best, can come back to haunt you!

We're happy to receive shutter images on e-mail and will write back with a detailed shutter design suggestion and ballpark price. Following your initial contact our In House Consultant (often the company Director) will advise you on a selection of design options, and should you decide to proceed with us, your shutters are installed by our own experienced carpenters. Shutter Colours and Finishes

Indoor ShuttersAll Shutterly internal shutters are painted or stained using highest quality lead free paint and stains. Irrespective of which shutter colour you choose, our shutters are finished to exactingly high standards.

The wood itself is hand sanded before any primer or stain is applied, ensuring the wood is smooth and unblemished. All shutter components (slats, stiles and frame) are moisture tested to ensure that they conform to our quality standards. Any wood that does not meet the grade is not used in the construction of your plantation shutters.

The shutter painting and staining process is not something that is rushed. Several thin layers of paint or stain are applied to slowly build up a deep, tough and long lasting finish for your wood shutters. Amazingly, between all layers the shutters are hand sanded by three different groups of people, ensuring that the shutter finish is always perfect and the shutter unblemished. Finally the shutters are coated in a UV protective lacquer to ensure the shutters are protected against the effects of the sun.

Shutter Design Options
Indoor ShuttersCafé style half height shutters? Tier on tier, double hung shutters? Or simple, elegant full shutters? Whatever your shutter requirements, we can offer whichever design solution is best for you.

We carry a range of 2 ½”, 3 ½” and 4 ½” shutter slats which offer contrasting looks and offer different amounts of privacy and light within your room. We were the first UK company to offer shutters with a ‘rod-less’ design where the push rod is concealled and not visible on the front of the shutter panel. We also offer a range of different shutter stil and rail sizes to fit your requirements and were among the first companies to undertake all our installations using frames as opposed to unsightly battons.

Call the Shutterly expert team on 0845 644 2873 to talk through your shutterly unique requirements and we guarantee you’ll find a range of shutter options hard to beat!
