House Shutters in North Laine Interiors Shop

One in the House opened on Trafalgar Street in November 2004 and has been inspiring home owners ever since. This diminutive former pub is a Tardis of treasures for your home. It’s dimensions may be small, but that doesn’t limit the enticing and unusual selection of furniture, lighting, glassware, accessories and jewellery.

One in the House have now joined forces with Shutterly Fabulous to showcase house shutters for their North Laine and central Brighton customers. The new home of Shutters Brighton.

Owner, Terri Prior moved from South Africa to Brighton in September 1993. “I had a successful interior design business in South Africa and my intention was to start a similar business on my arrival in the UK. I certainly didn’t anticipate it taking me eleven years to achieve this, but throughout that time, I never lost sight of my dream”

Deciding on an area to open One in the House was easy as I have always loved the quirkiness of the North Laine. Eyebrows were raised when I chose Trafalgar Street but my instinct was right and although it is on the fringe, it is fast becoming a destination for interesting and unusual home accessories.

It was love at first “site” when we found the premises. We gutted the building, had to tank the basement and damp proof all the rooms. We spent far too many months getting it ready, but the end result was worth it. As it turns out the Victorian sash windows are perfect for shutters.

Terri is passionate about interiors and the environment in which we live so it was a natural progression to source products which reflect that. “I want to give my customers a chance to buy beautiful items and furniture that have been lovingly restored, skilfully recycled and developed in an environment where the artisans are paid a living wage for the work they do.”

The City of Brighton and Hove is fast becoming known as a centre of excellence for home decoration and design and one in the house is undoubtedly at the cutting edge.
