Plantation shutters clearly explained...

..see shutters Shutterly clearly..
from the UK's leading shutter company

Within a shutter panel all of the louvres (also known as slats) are linked by a control rod and there are two options of this available.

The regular Push Rod
Traditionally the push rod runs down the centre of the shutter panel, and each louvre of the shutter panel is linked to the rod by a stainless steel staple, so that when the rod is moved the louvers of the shutter panel move together in unison.

We can arrange for you to have an offset push rod. This offset push rod is essentially the same as the traditional push rod however it is placed to one side of the front of the shutter panel. This ensures that louvers can still be easily adjusted, opened, or closed, but it is less likely to interfere with your view or create fussy vertical lines at your window opening.

Hidden Tilt Rods
With our “open sky” push rod system, a slim metal control rod is linked to each of the louvers hidden at the back of the shutter panel to the side of the blades. The louvres are then operated by tilting one of the shutter louvers. As one is tilted the rest, again, move in unison. Shutterly Fabulous was the first company in the UK to offer shutters with a hidden tilt rod system. To this day we offer our shutters with either a regular push rod or a hidden push rod at no extra cost to you.

Regardless of which system you opt for each of the blades is attached to the shutter with spring loaded plastic pins, which means that if you ever need to replace a louvre it is a very simple procedure - as they are spring loaded they are easy to insert and can be made to the same size as your originals should you incur any damage to them within the 3 year guarantee period.

Shutters can seem a little daunting as not only are you trying to figure out the best company to design and install your shutters, but you have a whole new set of words to contend with as well!

We like to be Shutterly clear about all that we do and about our shutters, therefore we've put together this clear explanation about all the parts that make up our window shutters.

Top Rail - The solid part at the very top of the shutters panel.

Bottom Rail - The solid part at the very bottom of the shutters panel.

Mid Rail - Shutters can be specified with a solid horizontal piece of wood which is called a mid rail. Other terms you may hear applied to this part of the plantation shutters is divide rail or support rail. The mid rail gives strength and support to the structure of the shutter panel. Shutters with a mid rail also have separate control of the slats on the upper and lower sections which have several practical benefits.

Frame - Shutters are installed within their own shutter frames. Shutterly Fabulous was the first shutters company in the UK to install shutters consistently using 2, 3 and 4 sided frames. Different frame options are available to suit your shutters and windows.

Stile - the shutters stile is the solid vertical part each side of the louvres on each shutter panel. We offer this in a number of different designs to suit your requirements.
