Solid Shutters Traditional Look for Period Properties

Beautiful Homes Solid Shutters October 09.

Solid Shutters are a very traditional look for period properties, or for re-creating a period look.

Traditionally, shutters date back to Ancient Greece. Obviously they have evolved since then, as interior window shutters in Ancient Greece were made from carved marble and had fixed louvers. Window shutters evolved to Victorian England from Europe and the Colonial Americas where shutters were used primarily in households as an alternative to expensive glazing. The Solid shutter was born to keep out debris and noise from the outside.

Solid interior shutters became fashionable in Georgian England in large period homes and town houses, with either the solid panel rising up to about two thirds of the way up the window, or a full height solid panel reaching the top of the window.

Shutters are now again an accessory to dress your window and act as a practical window covering, with functionality and excellent design.

Shutterly Fabulous manufacture bespoke both solid and louvered shutters for your home.
