Solid panel shutters were generally used by the Victorians, particularly in London. The materials which the Victorians used for solid shutters were mostly cedar wood or pine. Although you can still find today that many have survived over the years, the pine solid shutters did not generally have the potential to last for such a long time and as a consequence of this, many original shutters have indeed rotted.
