These are the bits and bobs, widgets and gadgets that make our shutters sit so snugly and work so smoothly. They’re all fitted as standard, so no need to worry about any extra costs.
All you need to know about your plantation shutter parts

The rod is the vital bit of kit that puts you in control of your shutters. With personal taste in mind, we give you two rod systems to choose from.
Regular push rod
The classic choice, traditionally running down the centre of the shutter panel and linked to each slat by a stainless steel staple. Move the rod up or down and the louvres open or close with it. We can easily arrange to have your push rod offset to one side for uninterrupted views through your shutters.
Hidden tilt rod
This system lets you maintain the clean, unbroken lines of your shutters, thanks to a slim metal control rod hidden behind the panel to the side of the slats. To open or close, just tilt one louvre and the rest will follow. We were the first UK shutter company to offer a hidden tilt rod (we call it our Open Sky tilt rod) and it’s an option on all our wooden shutters at no extra cost.
Maintenance
Whichever system you go for, there’s no need to worry about damaged slats. Each louvre is attached by spring-loaded plastic pins, making them incredibly easy to replace if you have any mishaps in your five-year guarantee period.

Choose from six slat sizes to achieve the right light levels and perfect look for your room.
Shutterly Slat Options – The largest selection of louvre sizes in the UK
- 47mm – Our smallest slat size looks great for the classic country cottage chic.
- 64mm – This classic slat size works well on smaller windows or café style.
- 76mm – Our customers new favourite. Suits all windows, large and small, balancing light and privacy beautifully.
- 89mm – Contemporary, stylish and practical. Works well on large windows and doors.
- 114mm – As tastes changes, we’re seeing more customers make a statement with these larger louvers.
Options
Our shutters come in a choice of up to five louvre sizes: 47mm, 64mm, 76mm, 89mm, and 114mm. As you’d imagine, different sizes bring different benefits. Smaller slats reduce light levels as there are simply more slats to filter the light. Larger louvres let in more light and tend to look better in larger windows.

No detail’s too small when it comes to making the perfect shutters for your windows. Even the hinges you choose can make a big difference.
As a rule, we advise matching hinges to the finish colour for painted shutters, or picking a complementary metal tone for natural wood finishes. All our hinges come with matching screwheads to keep hinges looking neat and tidy.
One question worth asking yourself is how often you’ll be opening and closing your shutters. If you’re planning to throw them back each morning to welcome the day, the hinges will be on show more of the time. How noticeable do you want them to be?
Colour options:
- Brushed steel
- Chrome
- White
- Ivory
- Brass
- Antique brass
- Black

Magnet plates keep your shutters open or closed in the position you want, so not even the stiffest breeze can shift them.
When you open a Shutterly Fabulous shutter, it stays open and stays put. We use magnets on our shutter panels and corresponding magnet plates on the frame to keep shutters firmly in place through knocks or winds. Unlike many other shutter companies, our magnets even hold your shutters in place when they’re opened as a bi-fold.
