Plantation shutters are made to measure wooden blinds that sit inside their own frame, drilled to your windowsill or doorframe.
Plantation shutters typically have adjustable slats – sometimes referred to as louvres – that can be tilted from fully closed to fully open and angled anywhere in between, allowing you to control light, privacy and airflow through the room. They also come in solid form (without slats) similar to the shutters you see on the windows of period properties – the difference being that plantation shutters suit any era home and interior decor style.
Plantation shutters have a host of benefits depending on the style you choose. No other window dressing gives you such flexible light and privacy control combined: simply adjust with the push of a slat. All our plantation shutters are fitted bespoke to every window, blocking draughts when fully shut, providing your room with additional insulation, and acting as a natural noise barrier.
Plantation shutters dramatically improve the interior and exterior appearance of homes. Their smart appearance provides impeccable first impressions, increasing the value of your property. Plantation shutters are the easiest of all window dressings to keep clean. No need for any dry-cleaning as with curtains or blinds, a simple wipe with a feather duster will keep shutters pristine.
Plantation shutters for windows come in several different styles.
Full height shutters cover the whole window from top to bottom and open and close like doors or in a concertina fashion. They’re the most popular choice for standard windows.
Tier on tier shutters have the appearance of full height shutters when closed, but have top and bottom tiers that can be opened and closed independently.
Café style shutters only partially cover windows, letting light continually enter the room through the top, while keeping the room private at the lower section of the window.
Solid shutters don’t have slats or louvres, letting in far less light than other styles. It’s this light reducing quality that makes them a good choice for bedrooms.

How to choose plantation shutters
When choosing plantation shutters for windows, it’s important to take into account the room you’re decorating, the light that enters the space, and your privacy needs. Darker rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms can benefit from cafe style shutters – they will maximise light continually entering the room, while still giving you good levels of privacy.
If you’re choosing plantation shutters for bay windows or living areas where you typically spend more time – such as a bedroom or living room – opt for shutters that will give you the flexibility you need to control light.
