Speciality Shaped Shutters

Our plantation shutters fall into four main shutter styles. Regular full height shutters, full height shutters with a dividing mid rail, tier on tier shutters and café style shutters. The drawings opposite will help to distinguish these interior shutters for you.

Full height plantation shutters are by far the most popular design of shutters we sell due the clean lines and elegant finish they give. Depending on the style of your windows, full height shutters will be fitted with a midrail. The midrail serves three purposes. Primarily to offer increased strength on larger shutter panels which helps reduce warping. Aesthetically midrails are set to align with the mid bar of your windows giving a more uniform appearance and helping to hide away large unsightly handles. Finally they give greater versatility by allowing the slats above the midrail to open independently of the slats below the midrail which offer the same benefits as tier on tier.

Tier on tier shutters offer the most flexibility, the top set of panels can be open back independantly of the bottom set of panels. The bottom panel louvres can then be tilted to give you the level of privacy desired. This versatility allows for greater light control whatever the time of day. These classic shutters are best suited to taller windows over the height of 120cm.

Café style shutters offer some of the same advantages as tier on tiers shutters. As they are simply half the height of tier on tier shutters with the top of the panel generally set to align with the top of the central window frame. As such they give increased privacy particularly when fitted to street level windows. They can be installed as a standalone window feature allowing plenty of light into a room or the can be used in conjunction with

window curtains. To this day Café shutters are still popular in bars and restaurant, where the style originated.

Door shutters can generally be installed to any door set. We offer solid based shutters with regular shutter louvres above the midrail. This option is popular with our customers who own period properties and are trying to tie shutters into their existing look. Full height shutters can also be used to cover doors. These work in the same manner as full height window shutters, although out consultants will calculate the required panels widths to ensure when the shutter panels are folded back, you have full access to your doors. French doors with lever type handles can be accommodated as we will template the aperture required for the handle to be accessed. Track shutters are available for those larger door openings or if you require a room divide.

Our plantation shutters can be made to fit the most awkward shaped windows. In fact a plantation shutter is often the only window dressing option available when it comes to an irregularly shaped window. The most common specialty shaped shutters our customers request are arched shutters for both windows and doors.

For arched shutters we offer the sunburst shutter design, also know as fan top shutters. Or you could opt for the push rod arched design. The sunburst design is possibly more eye catching but the push rod design is more ergonomic in that you will find the slats easier to control when opening and closing them.
