Choosing the perfect style of shutters for the windows in your home doesn’t have to be overwhelming. It can feel like it’s a lot to take in at first, but we’re here to help break things down and make sense of everything. If you still have any questions, get in touch to schedule an in-home consultation with one of our experts!

A key factor in choosing which style of shutters to choose for your windows comes down to the size of the window itself. The shape of the window plays a big role, too. While we can install any style of our shutters to any windows that you have, we find that it’s helpful to use the following guidelines as a starting point. Matching the size and style of window with the best fitting style of shutter will ensure your home looks truly fabulous!

Wooden Shutters for Interior Bay Windows

The magic of our shutters is that we can manufacture and design any style to fit each window, so there’s no rules written in stone that things have to be a specific way. Our shutter specialists will consult with you and explain all the different choices you have. Here are some bay window decorating ideas to get you started.

Shutters for Box Bay Windows

Box bay windows can bring a lot of extra light into your home, and plantation shutters are an excellent fit for this style. Since plantation shutters, are also designed to help optimize light, it’s a match made in heaven! Sometimes, you don’t want a lot of light, and it’s quick and easy to make those adjustments when you install plantation-style shutters in your box bay windows.

Shutters for Curved and Angled Bay Windows

Just like with box bay windows, plantation shutters are also an excellent option for curved bay window configurations. Rest assured, we can show you how everything will look in similar homes to yours, and we will measure your bay window precisely so that you’ll get a perfect fit, regardless of which style you choose.

Cafe Style Shutters for Bay Windows

Cafe style bay window shutters are a great look for curved bay windows, as they’re generally wider than they are tall, and will provide privacy for street-level rooms.

Book a free appointment today, and one of our shutter consultants can visit your home and advise you on the best style for your bay windows.

Bi fold shutters for Bay Windows

If you’re worried about shutters taking up a lot of room in your bay window, discuss the option of bi-fold shutters with your consultant. Bi-fold shutters are where two shutter panels are hinged together and can fold back neatly. These shutters even have magnet plates in the panels to ensure they close securely.

Solid Shutters for Bay Windows

If your bay windows are in your bedroom, then this is a good opportunity to use solid shutters. Solid shutters on bay windows do the best job of blocking out the light, and they offer complete privacy. Even though these solid hardwood shutters block out the light, they can still be opened up to let in the light when you want to let a little sunshine in. Solid bay window shutters also provide a traditional aesthetic that complement period properties perfectly.

Shutters for Small Windows

If you have small windows in your home, then full height shutters make a great fit. Full height shutters cover the entire height of your window, as the name suggests. Rather than having multiple panels stacked, they are tall enough to cover the length of your window and provide a streamline and fuss-free look.

Shutters for Modern/UPVC Windows

Windows in modern properties are usually wider than they are tall, so tier-on-tier shutters aren’t the best option in this case. We would recommend going with full height shutters instead, with a larger slat size and hidden rod, these modern shutters will turn your home from fine, to fabulous!

Shutter on Patio or French Doors

If you’re lucky enough to have French or Patio doors, then this is another prime location to install shutters. Not only do shutters on doors look great, but they also take up less room compared to their blind and curtain counterparts. Shutters on doors also provide you with complete control over the light that enters your rooms, I don’t think curtains can say the same!

Shutters on Sash Style Windows

If you have sash style windows in your home, then café style shutters make a great fit. Café style shutters cover the lower portion of the window, and leave the top section uncovered. This works nicely in cafés, as the name suggests, since you still get a view of the outside, but with a little extra privacy.

Tier on tier shutters work very nicely with the design of a sash window, as the rails in the shutters can line up seamlessly with the rails in your sash windows. Our shutter consultants can advise you on the best design for your windows, as they all have years of experience in designing and installing shutters on sash windows.

Shutters on Special Shaped Windows

There are other shapes and styles of windows that don’t necessarily fit into any of the above categories, but don’t worry, we can make shutters for those, too! From hexagon windows, arches, circular windows, triangles, and anything else – put us to the test!

We love the challenge that comes with crafting the perfect set of shutters for every window in your home. We’re confident that we’ll be able to come up with a custom solution for every shape of window. Read more about our special shaped shutters here.

When on the hunt for interior window shutters, we can guarantee you’ll have plenty of options to customise your window treatment to suit you and your home. From colour, style, right down to the shutter’s material, the possibilities are almost endless! When it comes to kitchens and bathrooms, they are notoriously harder rooms to find a suitable window treatment for. Waterproof shutters are in fact the best choice for any kitchen or bathroom!

So, should you choose wooden or waterproof plantation shutters? Well, the only style difference in these is the material. Either you can choose our sustainably sourced Paulownia timber hardwood shutters, or you can opt for our 100% waterproof Polyvinyl shutters. Our waterproof interior shutters incredibly durable and hardwearing in damper rooms.

Wooden shutters and water are not a happy pairing. Water could leave your wooden shutters stained and in some cases, cause the shape to warp. So, for rooms like the bathroom, a usually humid environment, this isn’t going to be the best material choice. But this is where our waterproof shutters shine. Tougher, and of course water resistant, waterproof interior shutters are a great solution for humid rooms as they won’t distort in the damp environment or be susceptible to any staining damage.

We know that their incredible durability makes these polyvinyl waterproof shutters a perfect choice for damper rooms like the bathroom and kitchen, plus, our waterproof interior shutters range will normally come with a smaller price tag compared to our traditional high-quality solid wooden shutters. Though lower in price, there is absolutely no drop in quality! Looking just as amazing on your windows, a set of waterproof plantation shutters will have higher resistance to damp conditions and environments prone to splashes of water.

Just like they are for bathroom windows, waterproof interior shutters are ideal for kitchen windows – they also need a little love and consideration in terms of choosing a window treatment. Depending on where your windows sit, they may get some cooking spills and splashes over them – particularly when you’ve got either passionate cooks and/or little ones who might enjoy a bit of kitchen mayhem! In a lot of kitchens, you see windows above the sinks, again, this environment would suit a set of our waterproof window shutters perfectly. Sink water-splash backs, rising damp steam, pasta-sauce explosions, all things that a set of our polyvinyl plantation shutters will withstand. Not to mention, the kitchen can get hot and humid whilst someone’s cooking so its important that your window treatment can stand up to this!

The choice is yours, polyvinyl or hardwood shutters, there’s a material to suit each and every room in your home!  Want to find out how to get your hands on a set of our amazing waterproof shutters? Contact our helpful team of shutter experts on 0800 9700 800, they’ll give you honest advice and answer any of your shutter-based questions.

Windows come in a variety of shapes and sizes, which can make finding the best window dressing a bit of a challenge! Bay windows can leave you scratching your head whilst you try to find a treatment that ticks all the boxes. No matter what shape or size your windows are, our window shutters are both a sensible and stylish solution. Why are our shutters so special? Well it’s simple, we build high quality shutters, made to measure; so once we have your window measurements, your shutters are custom-made to fit your windows!

Bay windows

Bay windows are a very popular feature on both modern and period homes, and we think such a staple window style deserves a treatment to fully accentuate its character. Plantation shutters are the perfect solution for your bay windows, complimenting both Victorian bays and new build bays.

A common design feature both bay windows and shutters have, is the ability to maximise light entering the space. Unlike the standard window, bay windows are designed to invite light in from all angles, instantly brightening up the room. Whilst one of the fantastic benefits of plantation shutters is the amount of control you have over the light coming in from your window. Combined, they are the ultimate duo to add to your living space!

We haven’t even mentioned the wow-factor plantation shutters will add. Bay windows themselves are beautiful, and shutters compliment their key features, accentuating every angle and adding elegance to the exterior of your home. Whilst plantation shutters add kerb-appeal, they offer equally as many practical benefits – keep your space private from passer-byers, and if you live on a busy street, the addition of shutters also helps to reduce noise.

Then we look inside, and of course choosing the style of shutter depends on your own personal taste and what practical elements you want them to offer. If you’re hoping to emphasize the period your home was built in, plantation shutters are the ideal design to address this – often when our customers are looking for a shutter style that reinstates their properties Victorian character, we recommend solid shutters for a more traditional look.

Odd shape windows

All windows deserve to look their best, no matter what shape or size they are. We are proud of the high-quality shutters we build, our customers rave about our ability to create shutters for the weird and wonderful shaped windows they have in their home. Any peculiar shape, arches, hexagons, circles, triangles, sunbursts or anything else you can imagine! We love a good challenge. Starting as a peculiar window, once our bespoke shutters are installed, they become a unique focal point – give them the dressing they deserve.

If your property has some unusually shaped windows, and you’re trying to find the right dressing for them, don’t fret, just get in touch with our team on 0800 9700 800. Our shutter experts are happy to answer any of your queries, and will find the perfect shutter for your windows.

New to the wonderful world of shutters? Or maybe like most of us, you don’t have an endless budget to spend on a window treatment. Whatever position you might be in plantation shutters are a fabulously stylish and practical window treatment, and if you know what to look for, they don’t have to break the bank! You can find cheap window shutters, and just because they’re cheap in price doesn’t make them cheap in quality. At Shutterly Fabulous, we want to help you find affordable shutters that meet your budget – cheaper shutter options are popular amongst our customers who have strict budgets to stick to, or customers who want to dip their toe in before diving in at the deep-end and committing to any larger features. With just a few tips to consider, you can knock the price down to suit your budget a little more.

One way to reduce the price is opting for a smaller set of shutters. Maybe, take a look at your smallest standard sized window, you could consider going for a set of café style shutters! Half the size of full height it’s an easy way of finding a cheap shutter without suffering the loss of quality. Café style shutters are best in rooms like the living room, kitchen or bathroom, they provide essential privacy by covering half the window but still allow plenty of natural light to filter into the home. A great choice for those who have never purchased shutters before and want to try a cheaper more affordable option before exploring the rest of our range.

A second way to look for cheap plantation shutters, is to think about the material and finish of your window shutters. Choosing an ABS plastic material is often a cheaper alternative to our traditional wood, but we promise they’re still high quality shutters, plus they’re the perfect choice of waterproof shutters, making them a great choice for rooms like the bathroom. Alternatively, if you’ve got your heart set on a wooden shutter, you can save yourself some coins by choosing a natural wooden finish rather than opting for a custom colour.

Lastly, although buying your plantation shutters will initially cost money, in the long run they are in fact a smart investment. Our fitted shutters sit seamlessly against your windows, acting as a barrier against your windowpanes, preventing any drafts that could sneak in making your home chillier, as well as stopping the heating from escaping. This overall reduces the need to reach for the thermostat and keeps those energy bills low! Looking after your shutters is not an expensive option either, where curtains would usually need to be taken regularly to the dry cleaners to be kept looking shiny and new, all our plantation shutters need is a quick wipe down with a damp cloth – no need for any of those expensive cleaning products!

So, as you can see, plantation shutters on a budget can be achieved! There are definitely ways of lowering the overall price of our shutters without suffering a loss in quality.

As a homeowner, you want to know that the investments you put in will not only make your home a more enjoyable place to live, but that they will add that all-important kerb appeal. Whether you’re looking to make some money from your property in the near future or many years from now, there are a few easy and affordable ways to add value to your house without making major structural upgrades. Inadequate kerb appeal could lead to you getting on average £57,000 less than the asking price, so it’s important to maximise it wherever possible.

Here, we’ll run you through our top five affordable ways to increase your home’s kerb appeal and add value to your house. Including our very own affordable shutters!

how to add value to your house

1. Upgrade your front door

One of the quickest and most impactful ways of adding kerb appeal is to ensure your front door is as stylish and inviting as possible. It’s the first thing prospective buyers, in fact all guests, will see and sets a precedent for the rest of the home. Surveys have shown that signs of wear such as dirt, mould and peeling paint can put buyers off before they’ve set foot inside.

If you’re looking for a quick and affordable fix, give that front door a deep clean to get it looking sparkling. You could give your wooden door a new lick of paint, or change the colour altogether (red, blue and yellow are particularly striking shades). A new door might be an option too, together with a heavy duty custom knocker to add a sense of authority and uniqueness. Or you could go one step further and revamp the entire door frame, adding stained glass above it. Ditch that uPVC door and get a bit of wood involved, your wallet will thank you for it in the long run!

2. Book in a regular window clean

Gleaming windows tell the story of a home that has been cared for and looked after. Conversely, dirty windows do the opposite. It is easy and inexpensive to employ the services of a local window cleaner, who will pay regular visits to ensure your windows are kept looking as new as the day they were installed. Take a walk outside and notice how instantly the kerb appeal of your home is transformed, even if other elements are still to be addressed.

3. Freshen up those window frames

Window frames, especially wooden ones, can show signs of wear and tear that make a home’s exterior look tired and neglected. Ask your window cleaner to give the frames a bit of love too. Wooden window frames can suffer with problems associated with damp and rot, so replace any that are beyond repair. You could go for a new coat of paint, or even a new colour scheme altogether. You may have been drawn in by the allure of deep green or black window frames on certain houses, and they can certainly add a striking edge to the front of a property. Coordinate the colour with your front door for an even bigger impact.

4. Create an inviting front garden

As many as 67% of homeowners feel that a neat and tidy front garden will add kerb appeal to their home. Buyers coming to look at your property will be pleased to see that there’s not much to be done from an aesthetic point of view, whilst it creates a sense of warmth and invitation for all visitors. Simply keeping shrubs trimmed, pathways weed-free and adding large potted plants will do wonders. Chequered pathway tiles look particularly stylish, whilst you can simply cover worn out areas with gravel or shingle for a rustic yet tidy look.

Our team of local shutter experts will measure your windows and provide you with sound advice on the best options for your windows, returning later to install your beautiful new shutters. best way to add value to a house

For many homeowners, light control is a top priority when choosing a window covering. Shutters are a great option that offers a near-blackout effect that will allow the home to feel like a true refuge from the outside world.

What options are there for blackout plantation shutters and what style is best suited?

The opaque nature of solid shutters means that they lend themselves to being great options when exploring how to best darken a room. Covering the entire expanse of the window when closed, solid shutters will prevent the majority of light from entering the space. To find out more about solid shutters, and how they differ from our regular slatted style, read our blog: ‘Louvered or solid shutters, what is the difference?’

If you are looking for shutters to darken a room, Full height shutters are also a great solution. Our louvred shutter slats overlap to ensure most light is successfully blocked out.

black out window shutters

What are the benefits of blackout shutters?

Blackout window treatments can contribute to a more restful environment at home. Our window treatments provide privacy and darkness when the shutters and slats are closed.

Which rooms are blackout shutters best suited to?

Blackout interior shutters are best installed in light-sensitive rooms such as the bedroom or kids’ rooms. Bedroom shutters will allow any early morning sunlight or streetlights to be significantly reduced to allow for a restful night’s sleep without any disruptions.

shutters to darken a room

Does the colour of shutter make a difference?

While our made-to-measure shutters will block out most light from the outside, opting for a darker shade when selecting shutters will enhance the darkening effect within the room once the shutters are closed. Our colour matching service allows for a paint choice which blends nicely into your interior, no matter the style.

Can blackout window shutters be an option for all windows no matter the size?

Absolutely. All of our shutters are custom made, so it doesn’t matter how tricky the size or shape of the window is, we can create a design which will fit to it seamlessly.

Plantation shutters are a luxurious window solution that can seem out of budget for many homeowners. However, shutters don’t have to be an expensive investment. Here at Shutterly Fabulous we have affordable plantation shutters available to ensure that everyone can experience the great benefits of these practical yet stylish window dressings in their homes.

If you’re wondering how to make plantation shutters more affordable, we have provided below some informative advice.

Are shutters more expensive than made-to-measure blinds and curtains?

Shutters are thought to be a significant investment, but the installation of shutters is no more expensive than buying quality, made-to-measure blinds and curtains.

How can I find affordable shutters that will meet my budget?

The style of shutters can also significantly impact the final price. Full height, solid and tier-on-tier shutters are typically more expensive than Café-Style shutters due to them covering the entire expanse of the window.

Special shapes

The shape of your window can also impact the price. When ordering your shutters be aware that shaped shutters and shutters on a track system come at a slightly higher price. You could consider getting café style shutters on your arched window, which would not incur any extra cost and still provide the style and finish that you’re looking for.

Lastly, to keep shutters on the affordable side, choose from our basic colour palette with no additional costs. Our custom colour matching service is available, but it does involve an extra charge.

I have a large window how can I make shutters more affordable?

We suggest that you take advantage of online discounts that are available throughout the year. It is the best way to get the window solution you want at a lower cost.

Does shipping increase cost?

If you require your shutters for a special period like Christmas or Easter, we suggest that you order with plenty of time to spare. The need for fast delivery can result in an increased final cost.

Luxury plantation shutters- an investment

Whether you opt for solid shutters, special shapes or express delivery, you can rest in the knowledge that our quality contemporary shutters are an investment.

Due to the thickness and quality of the materials used in our hardwood shutters, they will actually insulate your rooms and therefore save you money on your energy bills.  If that’s not enough, these beautiful window dressing are a semi-permanent fixture that will also add value to your home.

Our team are happy to help you find the perfect luxury shutters to match your budget, get in touch with them today and call the team on 0800 9700 800 to start the process!

Nothing quite beats that feeling of a fresh new set of our classic plantation shutters. Beautiful, stylish and practical on any window type, they truly are the best choice in window treatment. But with such a wide range of colours on offer sometimes it’s a good idea to go simple and choose a classic white window shutter. Take a look at our tips below for an idea of where is best to put white window shutters in your home!

beautiful white bay window shutters

A great factor to consider is the reflective properties choosing white for your window shutters will bring. For example, full-height white shutters on your living room windows, easily increase light as the sun bounces off the white reflecting back into the room. Tilt the shutter louvres to adjust the amount of light flowing in and you can really maximise the amount of sunlight the room will receive. This makes white shutters a great feature in larger rooms such as the living room, as well as smaller darker rooms which could benefit from a little more sunshine.

Whether your home interior is super colourful, to more of a minimalistic appearance, due to their neutral colouring, white plantation shutters certainly won’t be out of place! This makes them a great option for an everchanging style, no matter the changes you bring to your home a clean white shutter will look fantastic on your windows.

White window shutters are a fantastic contrast for darker coloured rooms, making your windows a statement in themselves. This works great for brighter bolder colours like blues or oranges! Equally, they are a beautiful complement to an already more minimalist home, flowing well with white or pastel tones. The options are limitless!

All of our shutters are made from great quality durable materials. Combine this with a classic colour and your window treatment will last for years: a completely timeless look, that unlike curtains, won’t go out of season.
